Every year a 500 square foot studio is given to one Ontario College of Art & Design graduate for a full year. The award is given by Margaret Zeidler. The beautiful studio (room 260) is located at downtown Toronto's 401 Richmond St. West.
In the studio Gareth created the "Lament" Painting Series, Penance Performance and Self-Portrait Installation.
401 Richmond is an old industrial building has been transformed into a vibrant home for artists studios, galleries, film festivals, charities, magazines, tailors, architects, theatre groups, design firms etc. It also has a wonderful cafe.
The roof top garden and stunning court yard are secret, (yet public) Toronto gems. The building is based on urban ecologist Jane Jacobs philosophy of "New ideas require old spaces" and the need for mixed use and diversity.
